How to get your M-Pesa statement — and open it
You can request your full M-Pesa statement from your phone in about two minutes. Safaricom emails it to you as a PDF and sends the password by SMS. Here's exactly how, plus fixes for the problems people usually hit.
Method 1: the M-PESA or MySafaricom app
- Open the M-PESA app (or the M-PESA section of MySafaricom).
- Go to Statements and choose the option to request or export a full statement.
- Pick the period you need — for example the last 6 or 12 months.
- Enter the email address the statement should go to, and confirm.
Method 2: dial *334#
- Dial *334# and choose My Account.
- Select M-PESA Statement, then choose to request a statement.
- Choose the period and enter your email address.
- Confirm with your M-PESA PIN.
Menu names can vary slightly between app versions and over time — look for “Statement” under your M-PESA account options.
Opening the PDF: the password
Your statement PDF is password-protected. Shortly after you request it, Safaricom sends the password to your phone by SMS. Keep that message — you'll need the code to open the file, and to unlock it in the Cheche converter.
Which period should you choose?
- Budgeting or tracking spending: 3–6 months gives a clear picture of your habits.
- Loan or credit applications: lenders commonly ask for 6–12 months — check with your lender.
- Business records or tax: a full year, or longer, lets you see seasonal patterns.
Long statements: Safaricom's 10,000-transaction limit
Safaricom stops each full statement at 10,000 transactions. If you use M-Pesa a lot, a statement you requested for 2 years may only go back a year or so — the older months are simply left out, and the PDF doesn't warn you.
This matters most for loan and credit applications: a lender reading a “2-year statement” should check the first and last dates, not just the period on the request.
Common problems and fixes
The email hasn't arrived
Check your spam or promotions folder, and confirm you typed the email address correctly. It usually arrives within minutes; if not, request it again.
The password doesn't work
Make sure you're using the code from the most recent SMS, typed exactly — no spaces.
My figures look wrong after converting
Always use the original PDF from Safaricom's email. Screenshots, scans, printed-and-rescanned or “saved as PDF” copies lose the text layer, so amounts can't be read reliably.
Turn your statement into Excel
Charts, every payee ranked, spending by category and Fuliza analysis — in seconds. Your statement never leaves your phone.

Is the M-Pesa statement password my ID number?
Not necessarily. Safaricom sends the password for each statement by SMS after you request it. Use the code in the most recent SMS — an older code from a previous request won't open a new statement.
How long does the statement take to arrive?
Usually a few minutes. If it hasn't arrived within about an hour, check your spam or promotions folder, confirm the email address you entered, and request it again.
How far back can I request?
You can choose the period when you request it, but Safaricom stops each statement at 10,000 transactions. Heavy users may find a 2-year statement only goes back a year or so — see Long statements above. Cheche reads everything in the PDF, with no page limits.
Can I use a statement someone forwarded to me?
Only if it's yours or you have the owner's permission. Always upload the original PDF — not a screenshot, scan or re-saved copy — so every amount is read exactly.
